the post

After years of working corporate jobs and later, starting and retiring two businesses, I can safely say that I am an entrepreneur at heart. The energy and excitement I draw from launching and shaping a business are unmatched, fueled by a constant flow of ideas.

Read a book….I think about writing one. Eat at a restaurant….well, let’s just say there’s a stopping point to that flow of business ideas. LOL!

Doing something centered around gifting, however, has not only been an idea for so long, it feels like a calling. A calling I’m still trying to understand….a special something.

And so, I’m taking that first step with this gifting blog and cannot wait to see how it all unfolds as I sift through my thoughts and prayerfully consider what’s next.

You can get the gist of the meaning of the word Tingum and why I chose it for the blog’s name on my home page. Because it’s not a widely used term and it can sound a little ‘odd’, I thought to share more about why I started the blog and named this idea ‘Tingum’. Here goes.

reason #1

A Gentle Nod To The Place I Call Home

Fun Fact: I am the only person in my family who was born and raised in the Bahamas. My parents are Grenadian, and they moved to Nassau about a year before I was born. No other family member calls the Bahamas their place of birth.

The Bahamas is more than just a place to me. It’s where the seeds of my beliefs were planted. It’s where small moments became cherished memories. It’s where my joy in gifting first brewed. Home nurtured my curiosity, creativity, and delight in the little things—things unexpected, things sometimes forgotten, kind gestures that lingered. The Bahamas is where it all started and Tingum is a gentle nod to the place I call home.

reason #2

Remembering What Matters

Life is life-ing. I’m guilty of saying this at times. It can get busy (and challenging). But, during those busy moments, I want to remember to slow down, be present, and remember what truly matters. And I want my loved ones to remember that they are thought of, even across time, distance, and varying relationships. Tingum, as a term used when recalling something worth remembering, captures these sentiments.

reason #3

A Collection Of Special Somethings

It took me some time to come up with this phrase/tagline but when I did, it felt perfect. It’s what I want Tingum to be about—a collection of special somethings that help ground us, shape us in positive ways, foster kindness, and bring joy to our lives and others. The specifics of those things may not come to mind right away, but I want to do my best to remember.

reason #4

Taking Action

I read this the other day and it stuck with me—make God’s guidance a lifestyle. We may not always know the outcome but we can prayerfully take the next step, no matter how small that step is. The name Tingum came to mind and without fully understanding why, I ran with it. And since then, the idea for the logo, tagline, and blog posts have been coming together nicely. I’m not sure what I’m building here, but I’m proud of it already. I took action.

So I hope Tingum becomes a space on the web that makes you want to stay awhile, get creative with gifting, remember what matters, find a collection of special somethings, and inspire you to take action.
